2022 SEASON OF CREATION - Calendar of Events
September 1 In person
Mass on World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, Thursday, September 1 at 9;00 am. We celebrate the 9 am Daily Mass with a creation care service. Following Mass at 9:45, we will have a 30-minute prayer walk on the trails behind the church.
September 3 Virtual
Monthly Prayer Vigil, Saturday, September 3 at 4:00 pm. Please join us for our parish Prayer Vigil for Peace, Life, and Justice, marking the Season of Creation. We'll pray that the world’s governments may respond to “the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” (Laudato Si’ 49) with bold policies to mitigate climate change. The vigil is from 4 to 4:45 p.m. via Zoom (https://bit.ly/3QeCTQ4).

Centering Prayer, Thursday, September 8 at 9:30 am. Experience the silence and reflection of Contemplative Prayer at the 9:30 am centering prayer and Lectio Divina one hour session. Email saintjn.cch@gmail.com for the Zoom link. Newcomers welcome! Join early for basic instructions.

Nature Walk, Saturday, September 10 at 9:00 am. Join SJN parishioner Alexandria Gillen, a Certified Master Naturalist, as she leads us on a 45-minute nature walk. Meet at 9:00 am in the SJN parking lot.

Guest Speaker at our Care for Our Common Home Monthly Meeting, Tuesday, September 13 at 7:00 pm. Our monthly meeting will feature a lively presentation, "What's Recyclable? Where Does it Go? How Can I Make a Difference?" by Erica Carter, Recycling Coordinator, Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services. Erica will be glad to answer your recycling questions.

Diocese of Arlington Peace and Justice Conference, Saturday, September 17. Join Bishop Michael Burbidge for “Why Should We Care for Our Common Home? Conversion, Prayer and Action” at the Nativity Catholic Church in Burke, VA. Visit Peace and Justice Conference 2022 (arlingtondiocese.org) to register to attend in person or to view the livestream (no registration required for the livestream).

Centering Prayer Information Session, Wednesday, September 21 at 7:00 pm. Join us to learn about the basics of Contemplative Prayer: what it is and how to do it. Learn about the various formats and how to find a group to pray with in the area or virtually. Participants from two parish prayer groups will share insights and answer questions. And then, together, we will practice a short version of this prayer of silence. “Silence is God’s first language.”
September 24 In Person
Lawyers Road Cleanup, September 24 at 9 am. Volunteers will meet in the upper parking lot at SJN near Lawyers Road for the quarterly roadside cleanup. Minimum age is 18 for this activity.

The Story of Plastic Documentary Screening, Friday, September 30 at 6:45 pm in the Brown-McCarthy Auditorium. We will be showing the award-winning documentary The Story of Plastic which “presents a cohesive timeline of how we got to our current global plastic pollution crisis and how the oil and gas industry has successfully manipulated the narrative around it. From the extraction of fossil fuels and plastic disposal to the global resistance fighting back, The Story of Plastic is a life-changing film depicting one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues.” The trailer can be viewed at The Story of Plastic | Outcast Films (outcast-films.com).

Blessing of the Pets, Sunday, October 2 at 1:00 pm. In celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, Fr. Don will give a blessing of pets around the flagpole area.

Feast of St. Francis of Assisi Daily Mass, Tuesday, October 4 at 9:00 am. Come celebrate the end of the 2022 Season of Creation by attending the 9:00 am daily Mass followed by a short reception. All Are Welcome!

Taize Prayer Service, Tuesday October 4 at 7:30 pm. We will end the Season of Creation on St. Francis of Assisi’s Feast Day by joining CJ Capen at the Taize Prayer Service.
